The Australian Government response to the Senate Education and Employment References Committee (the Committee) inquiry and report on Wage Justice for Early Childhood Education and Care Workers (Special Account) Bill 2024 is now available.

The response to the Committee’s recommendations has been coordinated by the Department of Education, in consultation with Government agencies. The Government accepts the recommendations that the bill be passed and that investment continues to be made to improve educator working conditions. It is noted that a phased wage increase of 10 per cent in the first year, increasing to 15 per cent in the second year is an economically responsible approach which also provides an historic pay increase for early childhood education and care educators, and this is an interim measure while the Fair Work Commission finalises its gender undervaluation review of priority awards.
