Questions and troubleshooting
Below are answers to common questions we get about Geccko accounts.
Getting started and registering an account
I made an error typing in my email address – what should I do?
Simply complete your registration again with your correct email address. There is no need to contact us.
My service isn’t listed on the registration form or national register. How can I register?
Services in scope of the National Quality Framework are listed on the registration form. To find your service, start typing the service name in the Service ID field then select it when it appears. If your service is not in scope of the National Quality Framework or does not appear in the registration form, please type 'Not applicable', then select this option.
Do I need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to register?
No, you don’t need a USI to create a Geccko account. If you have a USI, we encourage you to include it to help identify you as the account owner. You can also add your USI to your Geccko account at any time. Check the Geccko Support page for instructions on updating your information. Learn more at usi.gov.au.
How do I know if my account uses a group or shared-access email?
If your login email is something generic (like admin@workplace.com) or is used by multiple people at your service, it is a shared account. Anyone who uses this account must re-register with a personal email address.
A personal email address is one that only you can access. This could be your individual work email (your.name@workplace.com) or a personal email (your.name@mail.com).
If you work across multiple services, or expect to change employers in the future, you may prefer to use a personal (non-work) email address. This helps ensure you can continue accessing Geccko even if your work email changes or is deactivated. Two-factor verification is required to log in. By default, the verification code is sent to the email address registered on your account. If you lose access to that email (for example, when changing jobs), you may not be able to log in. You can also choose to receive your two-factor verification code by SMS instead of email.
How should agency and relief staff register?
Staff who move between services can either select the service type they work at most often or select 'Not applicable' in the service ID field. Each staff member must register with a personal email address.
Is Geccko the same as JW Gecko/Gecko Learning?
No, these are different platforms. Geccko is the Australian Government’s online learning platform for the ECEC sector. If you are looking to complete national child safety training, please do not register for through any other provider or platform.
Logging in
I didn’t receive a verification email – what should I do?
By default, the log in verification code is sent to the email address registered on your account. Check your spam or junk folder if you can’t locate the email. If you have added a mobile number to your account, you can choose to receive your verification code by SMS instead. If you are still having trouble, contact Geccko@education.gov.au.
What if I forgot my password?
Go to the Geccko login page, click ‘Forgot password?’ and follow the prompts to reset your password.
