Free online training is available to help you understand the Disability Standards for Education 2005.
The Standards explain what education providers need to do under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) to support students with disability.
From 1 August 2026, early childhood service providers were included in the Standards. Providers already had responsibilities to children with disability under the DDA. The Standards make these responsibilities clearer.
Training is available for:
- leaders, including centre directors, supervisors and program managers
- teachers working in Centre Based Day Care, preschool and kindergarten
- educators working in Centre Based Day Care, Family Day Care, In Home Care, preschool and kindergarten
- Outside School Hours Care educators, leaders and co-ordinators.
The courses feature examples of the Standards in action, helping services to support effective consultation, make reasonable adjustments and eliminate harassment and victimisation.
The training was developed in consultation with a steering group comprising early childhood and education experts including representatives from ACECQA. It was tested with educators and staff working in the sector.
