Advanced child safety training for the early childhood education and care (ECEC) sector is now available.
National child safety training is a key reform supporting safer environments for children in ECEC services.
Advanced training builds on foundation training, which has been available since February 2026. It includes 2 new courses focused on:
- creating child safe cultures
- responding to safeguarding concerns.
A third advanced course covering leadership and governance is expected to be available from 30 September 2026.
While foundation training applies broadly across the sector, advanced training is targeted to:
- staff who work directly with children
- people in leadership and management positions.
Under National Law, staff have plenty of time to complete the training.
Anyone who is required to complete advanced training must do so within 6 months of course 5 being published.
People who start working in the sector after course 5 is published must complete advanced training within 3 months of their start date.
Together, the training package supports staff to recognise, prevent and respond to risks to children's safety and wellbeing.
