Detailed findings
Children
1,520,070 children from 1,085,900 families attended a CCS approved service.
1,451,860 children from 1,020,930 families were allocated a Customer Reference Number (CRN) by Services Australia, down 0.1% of children from September quarter 2024. The remainder of this report analyses this cohort.
49.7% of children aged 0 to 5 and 35.2% of children aged 0 to 12 used approved care.
Of children in care:
- 57.6% (836,260 children) attended Centre Based Day Care
- 39.7% (576,430 children) attended Outside School Hours Care
- 4.7% (68,500 children) attended Family Day Care.
New South Wales had the largest share of children attending approved care, at 31.7% or 460,610 children. Victoria had the largest proportional increase, at 1.0% or 3,700 children.
44,880 children accessed Additional Child Care Subsidy.

68,150 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children attended approved care, up 4.7% from September quarter 2024.
New South Wales had the largest share of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children attending approved care, at 37.3%.
The majority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children using care attended Centre Based Day Care, at 68.0%. This compares with 57.6% for all children in care.
30.0% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children using approved care attended Outside School Hours Care, compared to 39.7% of all children.

Families
1,020,930 families used approved care, similar to September quarter 2024.
The number of families using Centre Based Day Care decreased by -0.9% (-6,280 families). The number of families using Outside School Hours Care increased by 2.1% (8,690 families).
New South Wales had the largest share of families using Centre Based Day Care, at 32.4% (222,810 families).

Services
15,300 approved services operated during the quarter.
Centre Based Day Care services represented 63.7% of all services, with 9,753 services. Outside School Hours Care services represented 33.8% of all services, with 5,169 services.
Compared to September quarter 2024:
- the number of Centre Based Day Care services increased by 3.0% (281 services)
- the number of Outside School Hours Care increased by 1.8% (92 services)
- the number of Family Day Care decreased by -2.0% (-7 services).

Usage
On average, children attended 27.4 hours of care per week, up 0.2% from September quarter 2024.
Of Centre Based Day Care services:
- Northern Territory had the highest average weekly hours, at 39.1 hours
- Tasmania had the lowest average weekly hours, at 28.3 hours.

Fees
The average hourly fee was $13.65, up 4.7% from September quarter 2024.
Outside School Hours Care had the lowest average hourly fee at $9.65 per hour. Centre Based Day Care had the highest at $14.35 per hour.

The hourly rate cap for children below school age at Centre Based Day Care services was $14.63. With the exception of the Australian Capital Territory ($16.05) and Western Australia ($14.65), states and territories had average hourly fees below the hourly rate cap for Centre Based Day Care.
Nationally, 62.8% of Centre Based Day Care services had an average hourly fee under or at the hourly fee cap. This compares to 85.4% in Outside School Hours Care under a fee cap of $12.81, and 50.6% under a cap of $13.56 in Family Day Care.

Subsidies
The total estimated expenditure by the Australian Government was $4.02 billion. This includes Child Care Subsidy and Additional Child Care Subsidy.
Additional Child Care Subsidy accounted for $217.3 million of this.
The total estimated expenditure was up 2.8% from September quarter 2024.
The majority of Child Care Subsidy went to families using Centre Based Day Care, at $3.42 billion or 85.2%.
9.7% went to families using Outside School Hours Care.
