Detailed findings
Children
1,491,460 children from 1,069,970 families attended a CCS approved service.
1,423,900 children from 1,005,800 families were allocated a Customer Reference Number (CRN) by Services Australia, up 0.4% of children from June quarter 2024. The remainder of this report analyses this cohort.
49.5% of children aged 0 to 5 and 34.5% of children aged 0 to 12 used approved care.
Of children in care:
- 56.7% (807,160 children) attended Centre Based Day Care
- 40.4% (575,460 children) attended Outside School Hours Care
- 4.8% (67,750 children) attended Family Day Care.
New South Wales had the largest share of children attending approved care, at 31.8% or 453,160 children. Victoria had the largest proportional increase, at 2.1% or 7,350 children.
43,000 children accessed Additional Child Care Subsidy.

66,500 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children attended approved care, up 6.0% from June quarter 2024.
New South Wales had the largest share of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children attending approved care, at 37.5%.
The majority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children using care attended Centre Based Day Care, at 67.2%. This compares with 56.7% for all children in care.
30.5% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children using approved care attended Outside School Hours Care, compared to 40.4% of all children.

1,005,800 families used approved care, up 0.6% from June quarter 2024.
The number of families using Centre Based Day Care decreased by -0.2% (-1,350 families). The number of families using Outside School Hours Care increased by 2.3% (9,750 families).
New South Wales had the largest share of families using Centre Based Day Care, at 32.5% (217,610 families).

Services
15,214 approved services operated during the quarter.
Centre Based Day Care services represented 63.7% of all services, with 9,684 services. Outside School Hours Care services represented 33.8% of all services, with 5,148 services.
Compared to June quarter 2024:
- the number of Centre Based Day Care services increased by 3.4% (315 services)
- the number of Outside School Hours Care increased by 1.7% (86 services)
- the number of Family Day Care decreased by -4.1% (-15 services).

Usage
On average, children attended 26.7 hours of care per week, which is the same average number of hours observed in June quarter 2024.
Of Centre Based Day Care services:
- Northern Territory had the highest average weekly hours, at 38.9 hours
- Tasmania had the lowest average weekly hours, at 27.5 hours.

Fees
The average hourly fee was $13.40, up 6.7% from June quarter 2024.
Outside School Hours Care had the lowest average hourly fee at $9.70 per hour. Centre Based Day Care had the highest at $14.00 per hour.

The hourly rate cap for children below school age at Centre Based Day Care services was $14.29. With the exception of the Australian Capital Territory ($15.70) and Western Australia ($14.30), states and territories had average hourly fees below the hourly rate cap for Centre Based Day Care.
Nationally, 62.6% of Centre Based Day Care services had an average hourly fee under or at the hourly fee cap. This compares to 82.8% in Outside School Hours Care under a fee cap of $12.51, and 48.7% under a cap of $13.24 in Family Day Care.

Subsidies
The total estimated expenditure by the Australian Government was $3.86 billion. This includes Child Care Subsidy and Additional Child Care Subsidy.
Additional Child Care Subsidy accounted for $194.3 million of this.
The total estimated expenditure was up 5.6% from June quarter 2024.
The majority of Child Care Subsidy went to families using Centre Based Day Care, at $3.28 billion or 85.1%.
9.7% went to families using Outside School Hours Care.
