Supporting early childhood education and care in Alice Springs

A new early childhood education and care (ECEC) service has opened in Alice Springs, supported by the Community Child Care Fund (CCCF) Restricted Expansion Program.

The new Todd Street Child Care Centre is led by Central Australian Aboriginal Congress Aboriginal Corporation (Congress) and provides high-quality, culturally responsive ECEC for up to 37 additional local children.

Congress has been providing comprehensive primary health care, advocacy and support for Aboriginal people in Mparntwe and surrounding remote communities for over 50 years, including early years programs focussed on improving the developmental outcomes of Aboriginal children.

This site is an expansion of the services provided by the long-established Congress Ampe Kenhe Apmere Gap Road Childcare centre, ensuring better access to ECEC for Mparntwe children.

It is the third service to open under the CCCF Restricted Expansion Program, which funds the establishment of ECEC services run by mainly First Nations-led organisations. The program is part of the Australian Government’s commitment to Closing the Gap and increasing access to quality, culturally appropriate early learning in remote communities.
