About the training
From 27 February 2026, the following people involved in ECEC must complete mandatory national child safety training:
- persons with management or control
- nominated supervisors
- persons in day-to-day charge
- Family Day Care Educators
- other staff, volunteers and students.
The training is being developed by the Queensland Government and the Australian Centre for Child Protection. It will be available on Geccko. Geccko is the Australian Government Department of Education’s online learning platform for the ECEC sector. Training is free.
There will be Foundation and Advanced training modules. The Foundation training will be available from 27 February 2026. Advanced modules will be available in July 2026.
You will need a Geccko account to access and complete the training.
ECEC providers can access the following to support their staff to complete the training:
- Child Care Subsidy approved providers may close services early to support staff to complete the training.
- Small to medium providers may access wage subsidy grants. More information to come.
This is a National Child Safety Reform initiative. All Education Ministers agreed to new mandatory child safety training at a special purpose meeting in August 2025.

How to register
To ensure personal training completions can be tracked and reported correctly, all users must have an individual account using a personal email. Generic or shared emails are not permitted.
Visit the Geccko registration page and follow the prompts to create your account.
If you already have your own Geccko account, log in and update your details. If you use a shared Geccko account, you must re-register using a personal email address.

I don’t have a Geccko account (new user)
Create a Geccko account:
- Go to the registration page.
- Create a new account using a personal email address (an email only you can access).
- Complete the account verification process and log in.
I have my own Geccko account
Update your account details:
- Log in to Geccko.
- After logging in, you will be directed to update your account details.
- Follow the prompts to update your details. Make sure your details are current and accurate, and your account is not shared with anyone else.
I use a shared Geccko account
Re-register using your personal email address:
- Go to the registration page.
- Create a new account using a personal email address (an email only you can access).
- Complete the account verification process and log in.
Transfer past course completions (optional):
- From the Geccko Home Page, click on ‘Request Account Merge’ in the footer.
- From the Request Account Merge page, enter and confirm your previous email address (group or shared-access email).
- Click on ‘Request Account Merge’ button.
- We will verify and approve your account merge request within 5 to 7 business days.
- After your request is approved, your previous course completions will appear in your new account.

Navigating Geccko
Get early childhood compliance knowledge online, or Geccko, is our online learning platform for the ECEC sector. On Geccko, you can:
- complete self-paced courses
- download course completion certificates
- access other resources, like videos and tip sheets.
You can log in to Geccko on your computer, tablet or mobile phone.
After logging in, you’ll land on your personal dashboard. Here, you can:
- view available courses
- see important updates
- track your activity
- access support.
When the national child safety training becomes available, it will appear in your dashboard.

Training requirements and availability
Who needs to register for Geccko?
The following people need a Geccko account to access and complete the training:

Do Outside School Hours Care services need to complete the training?
Yes, all persons with management or control, nominated supervisors, persons in day-to-day charge and other staff, volunteers and students in ECEC must complete mandatory national child safety training in Geccko. This includes OSHC services.
Do preschools need to complete the training?
The mandatory requirement to complete child safety training applies to services regulated under the National Quality Framework. However, the training will be available to all service types, including preschools, as best practice.
Do occasional care services need to complete the training?
The mandatory requirement to complete child safety training applies to services regulated under the National Quality Framework. However, the training will be available to all service types, including occasional care, as best practice.
Do In Home Care services need to complete the training?
The mandatory requirement to complete child safety training applies to services regulated under the National Quality Framework. However, the training will be available to all service types, including In Home Care, as best practice.
Do school-based students, such as those on work experience from local high schools, need to complete the training?
High school students who are working towards a qualification (such as a Certificate III or Diploma) must complete the mandatory child safety training.
Why is the training mandatory?
All Education Ministers agreed to new mandatory child safety training at a special purpose meeting in August 2025. Changes to the National Law and Regulations were passed by the Victorian Parliament on 3 December 2025 through the Early Childhood Legislation Amendment (Child Safety) Bill 2025. The Bill addressed critical areas of child safety.
What happens if I don’t create or update my account?
You will not be able to access and complete the mandatory national child safety training or receive your completion certificate. This may affect your ability to work in the ECEC sector.
When will the training be available?
Foundation training will be available from 27 February 2026. Advanced training will be available in July 2026.
Can providers host the training in their own learning management system?
No, not at this time. We are considering this option and will update the sector if this changes. Until then, all ECEC staff must register and complete the training in Geccko.
Does the training replace mandatory reporting or other child protection courses?
No, national child safety training does not replace mandatory reporting or other child protection training requirements. For jurisdiction specific requirements, contact your state or territory regulator.

Account setup
How do I create a new Geccko account?
Go to the Geccko registration page, enter your details and follow the prompts to complete registration and verification.

Do I need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to register?
No, you don’t need a USI to create a Geccko account. If you have a USI, we encourage you to include it to help identify you as the account owner. Learn more at usi.gov.au.
My service isn’t listed on the registration form or national register. How can I register?
If your service does not appear in the registration form, please type 'Not applicable' in the Service ID field.
Why are shared accounts not permitted?
Shared accounts cannot be used because individual completions must be tracked and reported accurately.
How do I know if my account uses a group or shared-access email?
If your login email is something generic (like admin@workplace.com) or is used by multiple people at your service, it is a shared account. Anyone who uses this account must re-register with a personal email address.
What is a personal vs shared email address?
A personal email address is one that only you can access. This could be your individual work email (your.name@workplace.com) or a personal email (your.name@mail.com).
A group or shared-access email is an address used by more than one person. Examples include admin@workplace.com, fdc@workplace.com, director@workplace.com, accounts@workplace.com, or info@workplace.com. These are no longer permitted for Geccko accounts.
If you registered with a group or shared-access email, you must re-register using a personal email. Previous course completions can be transferred to your new account.
Can I use my personal email or work email?
You may use your individual work email (your.name@workplace.com) or a personal email (your.name@mail.com), as long as it is not shared.
How should agency and relief staff register for the training?
Staff who move between services can either select the service type they work at most often or select 'Not applicable' in the service ID field. Each staff member must register with a personal email address. They will be able to access and complete the mandatory training without issue.
I am a Family Day Care Educator and may move schemes from time to time. Which scheme should I register with and how do I update my details if I change schemes?
Family Day Care Educators should register with the scheme they currently belong to. If you move to a new scheme, you can easily update your account details at any time. Simply go to the ‘My Learning’ tab in Geccko and select the ‘View More’ button under your name to change your scheme information. This ensures your training records stay up to date, no matter where you work.
Updating account details
How do I update my account details?
If you already have a Geccko account, you will be directed to update your account details after logging in. Follow the prompts.
Can I update my account details again later?
You can update some account details in Geccko by going to the ‘My Learning’ tab and selecting the ‘View More’ button under your name.
What do I do if my account uses a shared/group email?
You must re-register using a personal email address. After registering your new account, you can request an account merge from the Geccko Home Page to transfer previous completions.
How do I transfer previous course completions?
After registering your new account, request an account merge from the Geccko Home Page. Your previous completions will be transferred within 5 to 7 business days.
How long does an account merge take?
Account merges can take up to 7 business days. If your completions haven’t appeared after this time, contact Geccko@education.gov.au.
Access and navigation
How do I log in to Geccko?
Go to the Geccko login page, enter your personal email and password, and click ‘Log in’.
Where do I find courses and training materials?
Once logged in, your dashboard will display available courses and training materials.
Completion and reporting
How can providers verify that staff have completed the training?
Learners can print or save their completion certificate from Geccko. Each certificate includes a unique certificate number. We cannot share staff training records with providers due to privacy protections. Providers should ask staff to present their completion certificates.
Is there an API for Geccko to feed data into our dashboards?
No, this is not currently available. We are considering this option and will update the sector if this changes.
Technical issues
I didn’t receive a verification email – what should I do?
Check your spam or junk folder. If you still can’t find it, contact Geccko@education.gov.au.
What if I forgot my password?
Go to the Geccko login page, click ‘Forgot password?’ and follow the prompts to reset your password.
Who do I contact for technical support?
For technical support with Geccko accounts, registration, or platform issues, email Geccko@education.gov.au.
Privacy and security
How is my personal information used?
Any personal information collected from you is used for the following purposes:
- administering Geccko
- creating your user account within Geccko
- communicating with you as a Geccko user, including sending regular email communications about new courses and updates
- providing Geccko technical support to you, if required
- adding information about your mandatory training completion to a national register for the purpose of maintaining the register
- verifying your identity
- monitoring and reporting on the completion of mandatory training
- reviewing and reporting on Geccko uptake and usage.
