There are two important rules about the fees you charge families for providing care and which you must report to the government:
- Families must make a co-contribution to their early childhood education and care (ECEC) fees. They do this by paying the difference between the provider’s fee and the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) amount. This is known as the gap fee.
- You must report the full hourly session fee you charge families, minus any discounts or third-party fee contributions.
There are certain exceptions that allow third parties or providers to contribute to the gap fee without reducing the family’s CCS entitlement. These are called prescribed discounts.
You must maintain records of all prescribed discounts. Your records must show how the contribution was applied to a family’s account.
You must submit accurate and complete session reports. This includes information on prescribed discounts if they have been applied for the session.
The correct fee is essential to work out how much CCS parents are entitled to receive for each session.
