School quality in Australia: Exploring the drivers of student outcomes and the links to practice and schooling quality

The Department contracted Deloittes Access Economics to explore the drivers of student outcomes in the Australian schooling system.

The report fills a gap in the Australian evidence by distilling the range of factors that influence student learning outcomes and estimating their relative importance, with a focus on those that are amenable to education policy. The analysis uses Australian data from 2015 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and the 2015 Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) assessments.
