EMBL Australia celebrated 10 years of the EMBL Australia PhD Course, a two-week residential program which trains Australia's future research leaders, in 2025. Co-hosted with the South Australian Immunogenomics Cancer Institute, the program brought together 60 PhD students from across the country to develop future-ready research skills in interdisciplinary science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The students explored AI foundations, mathematical modelling, systems biology, spatial omics, therapeutics, imaging technologies, career-development activities and more.

The program brings together leading researchers, educators and industry experts to support the next generation of Australian scientific leadership, covering everything from computational science to commercialisation of new regenerative therapies. It equips emerging researchers with the skills and confidence needed for modern scientific careers.

Without expert researchers and technicians, the infrastructure that NCRIS supports can never be used to its full value. Investing in our future research leaders ensures that Australia can continue to reap the benefits of our investment in research infrastructure.

The next iteration of the course – AusRISE Next Gen - will launch in early 2027.
