National Research Infrastructure Roadmaps identify Australia’s research infrastructure needs and set priorities for investment across the national research infrastructure system. Investment Plans then allocate NCRIS funding to these priorities and emerging needs, with the NCRIS program delivering the infrastructure and capabilities required by the research community.

NCRIS projects are highly collaborative, and work with a range of partners to deliver infrastructure and services across Australia, ensuring researchers can access the capabilities they need, regardless of location.
Currently, 26 NCRIS projects support around 400 delivery partnerships involving more than 250 unique partner organisations.
Australia’s national research infrastructure is open access and merit-based, available to researchers from universities, industry, government and other sectors.
Online platforms such as Research Infrastructure Connected help users discover and access the infrastructure they need, particularly those from industry and others who may be unfamiliar with the research infrastructure ecosystem.
The Australian Government Department of Education oversees the NCRIS program, including funding, performance monitoring and evaluation to ensure it continues to strengthen Australia’s research capability, innovation capacity and economic prosperity.
Who is it for?
NCRIS-funded infrastructure is shared infrastructure used by researchers and academics across Australian universities, publicly funded research agencies and organisations such as CSIRO. It also supports innovation across Australian industry, providing businesses of all sizes from start-ups to established enterprises, with access to world-class capabilities, expertise and facilities.
NCRIS partners and projects play a vital role in collecting and managing data that informs national decision-making. This includes data on climate change, population health and other critical areas providing government and policymakers with the evidence needed to guide policy development, investment decisions and long-term infrastructure planning.
Many NCRIS-supported software platforms and networks are connected to global research collaborations, generating knowledge and insights that support the health and well-being of people and the environment.
