From 1 January 2017, VET Student Loans commenced replacing the VET FEE‑HELP scheme for all new students. VET Student Loans will offer greater protections for students and provide access to quality higher level VET qualifications that address industry needs and create better opportunities for employment. VET Student Loans will be underpinned by strong legislation and hard hitting compliance measures.

From 1 January 2017, VET Student Loans commenced replacing the VET FEE‑HELP scheme for all new students. The new student loans program will be affordable, sustainable and student-centred. It will give eligible students access to quality higher level VET qualifications, particularly those students who could not otherwise afford to pay for their course upfront. The new VET Student Loans program will offer greater protection for students and focus on courses that address industry needs, creating better opportunities for employment.

Redesigning VET FEE HELP: Discussion Paper
The discussion paper seeks to promote public discussion and inform the redesign of the VET-FEE HELP scheme.
Senator the Hon Scott Ryan, Minister for Vocational Education and Skills seeks feedback on the ideas presented in the paper which includes a series of questions to guide stakeholders in providing comment.
The closing date for submissions is Thursday 30 June 2016.
