AITSL Guidelines for the Optimal Deployment of Teaching Assistants in Australian Classrooms
The Guidelines, developed under Priority Area 3, Action 21 of the National Teacher Workforce Action Plan and led by Queensland, are now live on the AITSL website.
These Guidelines provide practical, evidence-informed advice to help schools make the most of teaching assistants. They outline seven key strategies for deploying teaching assistants effectively, so their work has the greatest impact on student learning and achievement:
- School-wide approach to deployment
- Clear role expectations
- Opportunities for collaboration
- Professional learning opportunities
- Implementing interventions underpinned by evidence
- Clear teaching and learning approach
- Administrative, operational and supervisory support
