The Commonwealth Prac Payment offers teaching, nursing, midwifery and social work students support while they are undertaking mandatory placements.
About the program
The Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP) offers $331.65 per week (benchmarked to the single Austudy rate on 1 January each year) to eligible students while they are undertaking a mandatory placement in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in teaching, nursing, midwifery or social work.
Students should contact their higher education provider to apply for the payment. Please visit the For Students page for the CPP student eligibility criteria.
Students enrolled in a Diploma of Nursing at a TAFE or Registered Training Organisation, should visit the Your Career website.

2024
As announced in the 2024-25 Budget, the Australian Government is investing $427.4 million over four years from 2024–25 (and an additional $1.2 billion from 2028–29 to 2034–35) to establish a new Commonwealth Prac Payment of $331.65 per week (benchmarked to the single Austudy rate) from 1 July 2025 for tertiary students undertaking mandatory placements as part of their teaching, nursing, midwifery or social work.
