The Strong Beginnings Excellence Fund

Established in response to recommendations from the Teacher Education Expert Panel, the Strong Beginnings Excellence Fund supports higher education providers to strengthen initial teacher education and better prepare new teachers for the classroom.

This first round of grants will support projects focused on classroom management, professional experience placements, assessment practices, mentor feedback, and improving outcomes for First Nations teaching students.

Recipients include:

• A partnership led by Melbourne Polytechnic, to strengthen support for pre-service teachers managing classroom behaviour during placements.
• University of New England and Charles Sturt University, to develop a new professional experience assessment tool for pre-service teachers.
• Queensland University of Technology, to develop resources supporting the consistent assessment of prior learning and professional experience for mid-career entrants to teaching.
• University of Melbourne, to develop approaches to classroom management and parent-teacher engagement during placements.
• Griffith University, to strengthen support for First Nations teaching students during professional experience placements.
• A partnership led by RMIT University, to improve learning and mentor feedback during placements.
