A student wellbeing officer or chaplain whose position in a school is fully or partly funded by the Australian Government's National Student Wellbeing Program (NSWP).

Employment arrangements for NSWP funded student wellbeing officers or chaplains must align with the requirements set out in the NSWP.

Can all student wellbeing officers or chaplains complete this Professional Learning Package?

No, this Professional Learning Package is for NSWP funded student wellbeing officers and chaplains only.

All student wellbeing officers, chaplains and school communities have access to a free online eSafety Professional Learning Program, which provides participants with an understanding of the relevant issues and strategies available to support the safe, responsible, and ethical use of ICT.

Please note: the free online eSafety Professional Learning Program does not replace the required Professional Learning Package that NSWP funded student wellbeing officers and chaplains must complete.

Why do employers need to allow NSWP funded student wellbeing officers and chaplains to complete the Professional Learning Package?

The Professional Learning Package is a requirement under the NSWP.

What are employers of NSWP funded student wellbeing officers and chaplains' obligations on monitoring completion of the Professional Learning Package?

As an employer of NSWP funded student wellbeing officers and/or chaplains, you must ensure all your NSWP funded student wellbeing officers and/or chaplains have completed the Professional Learning Package by keeping a record of their Certificate of Completion. Employers may be asked to forward a copy of this Certificate to state and territory education departments on request.

Who pays for the Professional Learning Package for NSWP funded student wellbeing officers and chaplains?

The Professional Learning Package is paid for by the Australian Government. There is no cost to NSWP funded student wellbeing officers, chaplains or employers.

Do NSWP funded student wellbeing officers and chaplains need to use their own time to complete the Professional Learning Package?

Each state and territory has different arrangements in place for when NSWP funded student wellbeing officers and chaplains can complete the Professional Learning Package. Please contact your state or territory education department to clarify the arrangements.

What if NSWP funded student wellbeing officers and/or chaplains don't have access to a PC or internet?

Employers should assist NSWP funded student wellbeing officers and chaplains to seek suitable arrangements to complete the Professional Learning Package if they do not have access to a PC or stable internet. It is reasonable that NSWP funded student wellbeing officers and chaplains are able to complete the Professional Learning Package at the employer's premises or at the school they are servicing as an NSWP funded student wellbeing officer or chaplain. However, NSWP funded student wellbeing officers and chaplains will need to negotiate this with their employer or school.

When should NSWP funded student wellbeing officers and chaplains register for the Professional Learning Package?

NSWP funded student wellbeing officers and chaplains should register for the Professional Learning Package and complete it within three months of commencing NSWP services.

How often do NSWP funded student wellbeing officers and chaplains need to complete the Professional Learning?

NSWP funded student wellbeing officers and chaplains should only complete the Professional Learning Package once every 2 ½ years.
