The Education Funding System (EFS) is being delivered progressively to education providers through a staged and sequenced approach.
On this page:
Following the successful initial release in November 2025, the delivery approach has been refined to ensure that functionality is introduced in a controlled and supported way, aligned to system readiness and key business timeframes.
This approach supports a stable transition to the EFS, while maintaining continuity of payments, data collections and provider obligations.
How the EFS is being delivered
The EFS commenced delivery on 17 November 2025, with initial functionality made available to approved authorities.
Following November 2025, system functionality is being progressively released and enhanced, with new capabilities introduced over time in line with:
- system readiness
- stakeholder preparedness
- alignment to funding and data collection cycles
This delivery approach ensures that:
- critical payments and reporting continue without disruption
- users are supported ahead of new functionality becoming available
- each stage of delivery is stable, usable and fit for purpose
The EFS will continue to evolve over time, with further improvements introduced as part of an ongoing cycle of enhancement typical of modern digital platforms.
What this means for Schools providers
The EFS is progressively replacing SchoolsHUB as the platform used by approved authorities to manage school funding and reporting.
- Approved authorities began using the EFS from November 2025, including to view payments and submit key data collections.
- Additional functionality will continue to be introduced progressively.
- Updates to organisation and school information will transition into the EFS as functionality becomes available.
BGAs will onboard to the EFS in November 2026 and have access to the full EFS functionality for the Capital Grants Program.
NGRBs will be able to commence onboarding to the EFS from November 2026 to view 2027 payments and manage their organisations.
Until onboarding, stakeholders should continue to undertake existing business‑as‑usual activities using current systems and processes.
What this means for Higher Education providers
Changes for higher education providers will be introduced progressively, with onboarding commencing in the second half of 2026.
Onboarding will be undertaken in cohorts, aligned to the timing of key business activities such as data collections and reporting.
This approach ensures that providers:
- are onboarded ahead of their first on‑system activity
- have sufficient time to prepare and access support materials
- can transition to the EFS in a structured and supported way
Over time, the EFS will provide a more centralised and streamlined way to access funding information, submit data and manage reporting.
Supporting a smooth transition
The Department of Education is committed to providing ongoing support to ensure a smooth and well‑managed transition to the EFS.
Schools and Higher Education stakeholders will continue to receive:
- advance notice of new functionality
- clear information about what is changing and when
- guidance on any actions required
