The Australian Government has awarded 1,000 scholarships to students commencing teaching degrees in 2026 through the Commonwealth Teaching Scholarships Program.
The scholarships provide up to $40,000 for undergraduate teaching students and up to $20,000 for postgraduate teaching students . They are available to both recent school leavers and people transitioning into teaching from other careers.
Scholarship recipients commit to teaching in government schools or government-run early learning settings for a period equivalent to the length of their teaching degree, helping to strengthen Australia's future teacher workforce.
Since its launch in 2024, the program has awarded almost 3,000 scholarships across three rounds. The Commonwealth Teaching Scholarships Program will deliver up to 5,000 scholarships over five years and is a key initiative under the National Teacher Workforce Action Plan.
