Pilbara Kimberley University Centre (PKUC) has celebrated 47 graduating students.

Among the 47 graduates was the first cohort of students to complete Central Queensland University’s Bachelor of Nursing entirely in the Pilbara, supported by PKUC.

Funded under the Australian Government’s Regional University Study Hubs program, the hubs offer students the opportunity to access tertiary education without having to leave their communities. Students have access to quiet study spaces, high-speed internet, printing facilities, computers, and student support, including administrative and academic skills advice.

Since its establishment, PKUC has supported 667 students and currently supports 285 students.

PKUC Bachelor of Nursing graduate, Emma, highlighted how the support staff have gone above and beyond and helped her to grow from a student into a professional.

“Living in a regional area may have added a few extra hurdles, but it never held us back,” Emma said.

“The PKUC played such an important role in that. Their support, resources, and encouragement helped turn distance into opportunity, they showed us that we could chase our dreams without leaving the communities we love.”

Country Universities Centre (CUC) Mount Isa in Queensland has also recently celebrated 30 graduating students. As at November 2024, CUC Mount Isa was supporting 70 students, with 19% identifying as First Nations.

In exciting news for students in NSW, CUC Parkes has relocated to a new site three times bigger than its previous location to accommodate the growing student population.

There are currently 56 Regional University Study Hubs located across Australia, with 47 open and operating, and 9 more set to open later this year.

Since its establishment, the Regional University Study Hubs program has supported 15,253 students across Australia.
