Seventy-seven research projects have been funded under Round 5 of the National Industry PhD Program.
This is a record-high number of successful projects approved under any round of the program to date, with 25% of these projects from regional universities across Australia.
The program encourages PhD students to participate in industry-related research projects, to give them the skills and knowledge they need to boost university research for commercialisation outcomes.
Successful projects were awarded $11.1 million in funding for:
- 43 Industry Linked projects (co-designed by university with industry)
- 34 Industry Researcher projects (industry professionals in partnership with a university and supported by their employer).
The successful projects include exciting potential in several research areas such as medical science, artificial intelligence and rehabilitation therapies.
Funded projects include researching methods for people with acquired brain injury to rehabilitate and recover their walking ability, the development of new technologies to protect victims of domestic violence from digital harm, and work to understand and better combat health misinformation as part of broader public health policy.
The program has funded 188 projects through its first four rounds and invested more than $32 million in the program so far.
The Australian Government has committed $296 million to boost university-industry collaboration through the program, which aims to add 1,800 PhDs over 10 years.
Applications for Round 6 are now open and close on 15 August. To find out how you can apply, complete the Expressions of Interest form or email industryphd@campusplus.com.au.
