Minister for Education, the Hon Jason Clare MP, has announced 10 new Regional University Study Hubs.

In response to the Australian Universities Accord Interim Report, the Australian Government announced funding to double the number of Hubs across the country, including up to 20 additional Regional University Study Hubs.

The hubs help students in regional and remote areas access tertiary education without having to leave their community. They provide student support and campus-style facilities for students who study online.

The new Regional University Study Hubs, approved as part of the recent application process, will be based in the following locations:

  • Garrthalala Bush University Study Hub (Northeast Arnhem Land, NT)
  • Country University Centre RAPAD (Longreach, Barcaldine, Blackall, Winton, Boulia, Bedourie, Birdsville and Jundah, QLD)
  • Country University Centre Southern Downs (Warwick, QLD)
  • Country University Centre Western Downs (Chinchilla, QLD)
  • Innisfail Regional University Study Hub (Innisfail, QLD)
  • South Coast Study Hub (Victor Harbor, SA)
  • Study King Island (King Island, TAS)
  • Gippsland East Higher Education Study Hub (Mallacoota, Orbost, Omeo, Heyfield and Yarram, VIC)
  • Ashburton University Study Hub (Onslow and Tom Price, WA)
  • Katanning Study Hub (Katanning, WA)

The Australian Government will also provide additional funding to support two existing Country Universities Centres located in Cowra and Mudgee in New South Wales.

Minister for Education, the Hon Jason Clare MP said:

“I want more young people to get a crack at going to university and we know that postcode is a massive barrier for young people getting that chance. The evidence is that where University Study Hubs are, university participation goes up that’s why we’re announcing 10 new Regional University Study Hubs and there’s more to come.”

These 12 hubs are in addition to the existing 34 hubs located across all states and the Northern Territory. There will be a future application round to establish additional Hubs at a later date.
