Students in regional New South Wales and Queensland now have greater access to higher education with the official opening of three new study hubs through the department’s Regional University Study Hubs program.
Country Universities Centre (CUC) Hay and CUC Snowy Valleys have opened new facilities in New South Wales, while CUC Isaac has opened a second site in Clermont, Queensland, following the opening of the Moranbah site in September 2025.
Regional University Study Hubs support students in regional and remote areas to access tertiary education without moving away from home. They provide study spaces, computers, internet and student support services.
CUC Hay is staffed between 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday and provides after-hours access to registered students from 7:00am to midnight on weekdays.
CUC Snowy Valleys is open to students from 7am to midnight, 7 days a week.
CUC Isaac in Clermont provides staff support from 9am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday and is accessible to students from 6:00am to midnight, 7 days a week.
Mother of three, Ashlin was the first to enrol to use CUC Isaac’s Clermont’s site to study her Bachelor of Education (Primary and Early Childhood) degree, swapping her laundry study space for a hub with state-of-the-art technology and support staff.
“Juggling a family and then trying to fit study in is hard at the best of times, even harder when you are in a remote location. High speed internet that doesn’t drop out is such a luxury along with having someone to bounce ideas and questions off,” said Ashlin.
“I also love the fact I can meet other students studying similarly. It’s not a cliché but you are now not alone as such. And with the cost of living, knowing I can use the facility for free is just amazing.”
In other hub news, Geraldton Universities Centre and Pilbara Kimberley University Centres’ Pilbara hub in Western Australia recently held events to celebrate 124 graduating students.
