First Nations Education Policy Consultation Survey

We want to hear from you - learners, families, educators and leaders across the early childhood, schooling and tertiary education sectors, community members, allied health professionals and organisations who want to help make a positive impact on First Nations education in Australia. 

The purpose of this public consultation process is to gather your feedback on the Policy's draft Vision, Guiding Principles, Focus Areas and Expected Outcomes to help us understand whether the proposed direction reflects the priorities, opportunities and challenges in First Nations education. You can make your response by responding to a set of questions in the survey.

Consultation Document

For more information about the First Nations Education Policy, please refer to the Consultation Document. The Consultation Document provides information on why a new First Nations Education Policy is needed, the proposed purpose, scope, and objectives of the Policy, and how the Australian Department of Education (the department) is developing the Policy in partnership with First Nations organisations, state and territory governments, and the non-government education sector.

The material in the Consultation Document has been developed for the purpose of consultation and does not represent the final First Nations Education Policy. Policy content is still in development and may change as a result of feedback received through consultations, further partnership work, and consideration by governments and key stakeholders. Feedback received through this process will be considered alongside advice from First Nations Partners, jurisdictions, education stakeholders and community engagement activities.

Personal information and privacy

When you are filling in this survey, you can choose whether to provide personal information (including sensitive information) to the department. Any personal information you share with us will be handled in accordance with the privacy statement. If you do choose to provide your consent, you can withdraw this consent at any time.

You can do this by contacting the department at FirstNationsEducationPolicy@education.gov.au and requesting that we remove your survey response from consideration. You will need to provide us with the Response ID provided to you at the end of your survey. The Response ID will allow us to identify your response and remove your survey response from consideration.

Personal information (including sensitive information) you may choose to provide to the department when you are filling in the survey includes: 

  • your name
  • your opinions and any other information you volunteer about yourself or others in the free-text fields
  • whether you are completing this survey as:
    • an individual and whether you identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, or
    • a representative of an organisation and if so, which organisation you are representing and whether it is a First Nations organisation.

Purpose of collecting your information

Any personal information, including sensitive information, collected by the department and its contracted service providers will be used for the purposes of:

  • administering the survey 
  • informing the development of the First Nations Education Policy and any related products, and
  • analysing and reporting on your feedback and insights from the survey response. 

The department may publish aggregated or de-identified analysis of the outcomes of this consultation. The department will not publish individual survey responses for this public consultation. 

Participation requirements

This survey is voluntary and is for individuals who are 15 years of age or older. Young people under 15 years of age are unable to participate.
