Welcome to the Department of Education

Parents and families can get information from the Australian Government on parent engagement in learning, Government initiatives and programmes that benefit parents, and information on schools and early childhood services. This page has links to useful information for parents.

Early learning and child care provides the foundation for children to develop both educationally and socially in a safe environment, while supporting parents into work.

The department supports researchers in Australia by improving research training, providing world-class research infrastructure and helping researchers collaborate with business and government through various funding programs and funded projects.

Australia’s higher education system is made up of universities and other institutions that play a critical role in fuelling innovation, driving productivity and giving students the skills they need for future success. The Australian Government supports higher education through policies, funding and programs.

The department works with the education sector, other government agencies and ministries to ensure Australia is recognised as a regional and world leader in education and a partner of choice for international collaboration.

The department provides leadership and coordination across government, delivering programs and policies, to support mobility and the global exchange of knowledge.

To ensure Australia’s future prosperity and to remain competitive internationally, the Australian Government is committed to ensuring that all Australian students have access to a high-quality school education.

The Department of Education and Training works with states, territories and non-government education providers to provide quality early learning, schooling, improved student outcomes and transitions to and from school through parent engagement, quality teaching and learning environments.
