The Destination Australia Cheung Kong Exchange Program supports Australian universities to offer short-term mobility scholarship opportunities for outbound students from Australia and inbound students from Asia.
The Program
The Destination Australia Cheung Kong Exchange Program is a joint funding initiative of the Australian Government and the Cheung Kong Group.
The intended outcomes of the program are to strengthen engagement between Australian universities and their counterparts in Asia and offer students the transformative potential of an overseas study experience.
The Program supports Australian universities to offer short-term mobility scholarship opportunities for outbound students from Australia and inbound students from the following countries:
- Brunei Darussalam
- Cambodia
- China (including Hong Kong)
- India
- Indonesia
- Japan
- Republic of Korea
- Laos
- Malaysia
- Mongolia
- Myanmar
- Republic of the Philippines
- Singapore
- Thailand
- Vietnam
Mobility experiences must be between two weeks and two consecutive semesters or three consecutive trimesters. Types of exchange or mobility opportunities may include:
- short term study
- research
- practicums or clinical placements
- in-country face-to-face language study
Information for universities
Universities listed in Table A and B of the Higher Education Support Act 2003 may apply for grant funding to support short-term mobility opportunities for students.
Round 6 of the Destination Australia Cheung Kong Exchange Program is now open for invited universities to apply for grant funding for the 2027 academic year. Applications must be submitted via the Department of Education’s SmartyGrants system.
How do students apply for a short-term mobility experience?
Students can only apply through participating universities for a short-term mobility scholarship supported by the Destination Australia Cheung Kong Exchange Program.
