Celebrating National Science Week 2026

From groundbreaking discoveries to everyday innovations, National Science Week brings Australians together to celebrate the power and wonder of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). It is Australia's annual celebration bringing together communities through thousands of events hosted by schools, universities, museums, libraries, research institutions and science centres across the country.

This year’s National Science Week theme is "Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All” and it’s running from 15-23 August 2026.

National Science Week features more than 2,000 events nationwide, encouraging Australians of all ages to explore, discover and engage with science in meaningful and exciting ways.

How does the Department of Education support STEM?

The Department of Education is committed to building Australia's future STEM workforce by supporting learning and participation from the early years through to higher education.

National Science Week offers something for everyone, including in-person events, virtual activities, talks, workshops, citizen science projects, competitions and hands-on experiments. Whether you're a student, teacher, parent or science enthusiast, there are plenty of opportunities to join in and celebrate science.

Schools can access a range of resources to help bring National Science Week into the classroom, including curriculum-linked activities and teaching materials developed by the Australian Science Teachers Association.
