English Language Learning for Indigenous Children (ELLIC) trial

For:

The English Language Learning for Indigenous Children (ELLIC) trial will aim to improve English literacy outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander preschool children for whom English is an additional language or dialect (EAL/D). ELLIC will be underpinned by a play-based, interactive application (app), designed in consultation with Indigenous communities and subject matter experts.

The ELLIC apps are being co-designed in consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education stakeholdersĀ and will be trialled in Indigenous communities with high representation of EAL/D preschool children.

Participating children will access the ELLIC app on tablet devices, and educators will be provided with extensive training and off-app support to assist implementation.

Consultation with participating communities and experts in Indigenous education is informing the development of trial resources and culturally relevant content.

An independent evaluation will report on the implementation and outcomes of the trial.
