The Department of Education extends warm wishes to Jewish students, families, staff and community members observing the High Holidays this year.

The High Holidays begin with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, commencing at sundown on 11 September and concluding after nightfall on 13 September 2026. Rosh Hashanah begins the Ten Days of Awe, a period of reflection, repentance and renewal that culminates in Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, from sundown on 20 September to nightfall on 21 September 2026.
The High Holidays are among the most significant observances in the Jewish calendar. For many Jewish people, they are a time for repentance, prayer, and connection with family and community.
The department recognises and celebrates the rich cultural and religious diversity of Australia’s learning communities and is committed to fostering inclusive environments where all students and staff feel respected, valued and supported.
