Release 1 is the first of 5 Education Funding System (EFS) releases and changes the way that approved authorities engage with the Department of Education (the department).

The department commenced engagement with approved authorities in September 2025 to support their onboarding to the EFS.

From Release 1:
- Approved authorities (AAs) can access the EFS via EducationHUB and authenticate into the system using a Digital ID.
- AAs can view their organisation and schools in the EFS but will continue to manage updates through SchoolsHUB until Release 2.
- All data collections for schools will now submitted using the EFS, in line with existing data collection timeframes, commencing with the February 2026 address collection.
- All payments to AAs are now made from the EFS, in line with existing payment timeframes, commencing with the January 2026 recurrent funding payment (for government and non-government schools) and any relevant prescribed or special circumstances payments.
- AAs can view the January 2026 payment details in the EFS from January 2026.
Additional system capabilities will be made available for approved authorities in Release 2 which is currently scheduled for March 2026.
SchoolsHUB will remain available for approved authorities to view historical data, manage their organisation and schools and use the online estimator until Release 2. Following the Release 2, approved authorities will manage their organisation and schools and use a new entitlement estimator in the EFS. Historical data will remain available in SchoolsHub.
Block Grant Authorities and non-Government Representative Bodies will continue to engage with the department through SchoolsHUB.
