The Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) has released two new guides to help teachers support students during periods of persistent and escalated behaviour.
AERO’s new practice guides, ‘Persistent disengaged and disruptive behaviour: Creating calm, focused classrooms’ and ‘Escalated behaviour: Creating calm, focused classrooms’, are the latest in a series of resources, funded by the Australian Government, designed to foster engaged learning environments.
The resources will assist teachers and school leaders with:
- Creating calm learning environments.
- Helping to prevent emotional and behavioural escalation.
- Supporting students when escalation does occur.
- Understanding the phases of emotional and behavioural escalation.
- Supporting students to focus on learning when a range of factors impact their engagement and attention.
The guides also highlight the importance of teacher wellbeing and contain practical case studies and examples.
