Digital ID and the EFS
To improve security and make accessing the Education Funding System (EFS) easier, we are introducing the use of a Digital ID. All EFS users will need a Digital ID to access EFS.
Your Digital ID lets you prove who you are when logging into government online services. This replaces traditional passwords and multi-factor authentication with a more secure, Australian Government approved system.
Why Digital ID?
Innovating how we manage and administer billions in Commonwealth education funding through a single, streamlined system is a big job on its own – but we are also modernising the way users access our system to strengthen and align with modern cyber security requirements.
The current cyber environment is becoming increasingly complex and high-risk, with government systems an attractive target.
Simple username and password logins linked to individual staff members are no longer secure – or scalable – for today’s online environment. Strong cyber security measures and the safeguarding of sensitive information is essential to public trust and service continuity.
This is why the Australian Government has implemented a national, economy-wide Digital ID system, enabling a secure and convenient way to access government services online.
Why myID?
myID is the Australian Government’s Digital ID app.
myID makes it easier and more secure to sign into online government services and is currently used by over 13 million Australians to access over 150 government services online.
Once set up, you will be able to reuse myID to access EFS services. You won’t need to remember or continually update your password.
The Department of Education (the department) will provide you with detailed information on how to onboard to EFS using your Digital ID before you need to access the EFS.
Want to get ahead? If you don’t already have a myID why not set it up now? Visit www.myID.gov.au to get started.
Why RAM?
Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) is an authorisation service that allows you to access government online services on behalf of your business or organisation.
To access the EFS on behalf of a business, you will need to link your myID to your business’s Australian Business Number (ABN) in RAM.
RAM can be set up in a few simple steps, however, if a business or organisation isn’t already using RAM, the principal authority (the person responsible for the business) will need to link their ABN in RAM. Once linked, others can be authorised to act on behalf of the business.
RAM is not yet available for you to set up to access the EFS. The department will provide you with detailed information on when and how to link your ABN in RAM, including how to authorise others to act on behalf of the business, and how to access the EFS using your Digital ID when the time comes.
In the meantime, you can view generic information on setting up RAM, including details on the principal authority role, on the RAM website.
