Applications are open for Round 3 of the Commonwealth Teaching Scholarships.
The scholarships will support new teaching students commencing full-time study in first semester study period of 2026.
The program offers up to $40,000 for new undergraduate students and up to $20,000 for new postgraduate students starting an accredited teaching degree. In return, recipients commit to teaching in government schools or government-run early learning settings for a period of time following graduation.
The Commonwealth Teaching Scholarships are already helping thousands of students with their initial teacher education.

Applications are encouraged from:
- High-achieving students (ATAR 80+ or equivalent)
- Mid-career professionals
- First Nations peoples
- People from rural, regional or remote areas
- People with disability
- People from low socio-economic backgrounds
- People for whom English is an additional language or dialect.
The program delivers on Action 2 of the National Teacher Workforce Action Plan, to help attract high-quality candidates and address teacher workforce shortages.
The program will deliver 5,000 scholarships over 5 years, with almost 2,000 scholarships awarded in Rounds 1 and 2.
Applications close on Monday 12 January at 5:00pm AEDT.
