If you can’t afford to make VET Student Loan repayments: serious hardship

If you are in financial hardship or have other special circumstances, you can apply to put your education and training loan repayments on hold.

This includes for VET Student Loans and VET FEE-HELP.

You may also be able to cancel your VET Student Loan debt in special circumstances.

Under very rare circumstances — where you can’t afford necessities like food or medical treatment — the government may decide to write off your debt.

This is called a waiver of debt.
