If you can't afford to make HELP loan repayments: serious hardship

If you are in financial hardship or have other special circumstances, you can apply to put your education and training loan repayments on hold.

You may also be able to cancel your HELP debt in special circumstances.

Under very rare circumstances the government may decide to write off your debt. For example, where you can’t afford necessities like food or medical treatment.

This is called a waiver of debt. You can't apply for a waiver if you studied with a private education provider.
