VET FEE-HELP to certain Certificate IV qualifications Trial

The Trial expanding the VET FEE-HELP eligbility to selected subsidised Certificate IV qualifications will end on 31 December 2016.

VET FEE-HELP providers that are participating in the trial must ensure VET FEE-HELP loans are only available for VET units of study that have an end date on or before 31 December 2016, irrespective of when the census date falls.

Providers must notify all students who are enrolled, or considering enrolling, in a participating Certificate IV course, and who will not complete that course before 31 December 2016, that the trial is ending.

In the event a student accesses VET FEE-HELP for units that end after 31 December 2016, providers must cancel the debt and repay any associated VET FEE-HELP payments they receive.

About the Trial

The Trial commenced on 13 January 2014 and will run through to 31 December 2016. The Trial was established to test the effect of the availability of HELP loans for selected Certificate IV qualifications on enrolments, completions and pathways to further education.

The Certificate IV qualifications selected in the Trial were selected by the state and territory governments participating in the Trial.

Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia commenced participation in the Trial from 13 January 2014 and Victoria commenced participation from 28 January 2014. New South Wales commenced on 1 July 2014.

Northern Terrritory, Tasmania and Australian Capital Territory did not participate in the Trial.

Eligible Students

To be eligible to participate in the Trial students must:

  • receive a subsidy from their state or territory government in the specified Certificate IV qualifications and
  • meet the entitlement requirements of the Higher Education Support Act 2003 including being enrolled in a VET course of study that leads to the award of a VET qualification.

Only those VET units of study that are commenced, and end (as determined by the VET provider at time of enrolment) before 31 December 2016, will be eligible to be included in the Trial. Students should contact an eligible approved VET FEE-HELP provider in their state to obtain more information on the Trial (see below).

NB: VET FEE-HELP is not available for full fee for service Certificate IV qualifications.
