Elevating the profession
The actions proposed recognise the value teachers bring to students, communities and the economy.
Strongly agree
Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?
It is critical that teaching is valued as a profession in order to attract high quality and passionate students to partake in teaching our young people. Quality teachers will assist in elevating educational outcomes for students
Improving teacher supply
The actions proposed will be effective in increasing the number of students entering ITE, number of students completing ITE and the number of teachers staying in and/or returning to the profession.
Somewhat agree
Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?
More work needs to be done in rural and remote areas to improve attraction and retention of teachers. Queensland has many rural and remote schools and it is a constant challenge ensuring beginning teachers, in particular, have enough support in all areas from teacher mentor to community inclusion to keep them in remote areas for any length of time
Strengthening Initial Teacher Education (ITE)
The actions proposed will ensure initial teacher education supports teacher supply and quality.
Strongly agree
Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?
It is important, particularly for rural and remote areas that Initial teacher education should include a wide variety of classroom situations including multiage classrooms and the ability to engage students in a remote classroom setting such as Schools of Distance Education.
ICPA QLD believes that home tutor experience should be recognised as work experience and those skills be transferable to teaching
Maximising the time to teach
The actions proposed will improve retention and free up teachers to focus on teaching and collaboration.
Somewhat agree
Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?
Important to note
That increasing compliance, paperwork, WHS, curriculum etc does not continue to encroach in to teaching time
Better understanding future teacher workforce needs
How effective are the proposed actions in better understanding future teacher workforce needs, including the number of teachers required?
Moderately effective
Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?
Very subjective
Better career pathways to support and retain teachers in the profession
The proposed actions will improve career pathways, including through streamlining the process for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation, and providing better professional support for teachers to retain them in the profession.
Neither agree nor disagree
Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?
ICPA QLD is not sure that should be a key focus are
