Teaching and Learning

The Australian Government is committed to supporting students—particularly those who need additional help or experience disadvantage—to participate in education, and move from school into the workforce to lead productive lives.

By working with states and territories, including through the Council of Australian Governments' Education Council, the Australian Government is ensuring all students have access to a world-class educational experience and are supported to be the best they can be.

Parents, families and carers are a child's first and most important teachers. Some useful information has been compiled to assist parents to better engage with their child's learning.

Through the delivery of the Australian Curriculum, students have access to high quality, relevant and engaging subject material.

In collaboration with the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership, the Australian Government is working to ensure there is a great teacher in every classroom in every school led by an inspiring leader to support every child to learn.

There is also a host of initiatives and informative websites to ensure the safety, wellbeing and resilience of young Australians.

Several Australian Government initiatives have contributed to increased participation in education and training by young people, helping them stay connected, and to create a productive, skilled and knowledgeable future workforce.

Achieving better results for Indigenous Australians in three priority areas – getting children to school, adults into work, and building safe communities – remains an ongoing commitment for the Government.
