The 2014-15 Budget announced significant funding reforms in higher education and research.
The Australian Government is committed to building a world-class education and research sector as one of the five pillars of a stronger, more productive and prosperous Australia.
The Australian Government will invest $10.7 billion over four years in university research and to attract and retain some of the world’s top researchers in Australia. As the National Commission of Audit highlighted, collaboration between the different sectors of Australia’s research system and the provision of quality research infrastructure are key features of the success of Australian researchers. This Budget provides continuing support for programmes that make a critical contribution in these areas.
