NCRIS infrastructure and collaboration key to improving survival rates from melanoma

NCRIS-funded project Bioplatforms Australia (BPA) has played a very direct and important role in a national project to create the largest repository of melanoma tissue samples and data in the world. Access to the datasets will help cancer researchers to understand the biology of melanoma better and to identify possible new therapies for treating a disease that kills an estimated one person every five hours in Australia. The project has led to the Nature publication of a BPA Framework Initiative in melanoma genomics this month.
