On 7 December 2018 the Hon Dan Tehan MP, Minister for Education, announced the In Home Care (IHC) Family Hourly Rate Cap would increase to $32.00, effective 1 January 2019. The Minister also announced the number of IHC places would increase to 3200, also effective 1 January 2019.
New Child Care Package (commenced 2 July 2018)
Australia has a new child care package with a new Child Care Subsidy replacing the Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate. The Child Care Subsidy is paid directly to providers.
There are also changes to the annual cap which makes child care more affordable for most families.
The Additional Child Care Subsidy is included in the Child Care Safety Net and replaced a number of previous payments including the Special Child Care Benefit and the Jobs, Education and Training Child Care Fee Assistance (JETCCFA).
Previous child care system (prior to 2 July 2018)
The child care system that operated prior to 2 July 2018 had a number of payments including the Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate.
