For families

For:

From 14 January 2019, child care providers will be required to include children’s actual attendance times in families’ statements of entitlement and in session reports (except absences).

Reporting actual attendance times is intended to help parents understand the relationship between the fees they are charged, the amount of subsidy paid to their child care provider on their behalf, and their out of pocket expenses.

New Child Care Package (commenced 2 July 2018)

Australia has a new child care package with a new Child Care Subsidy replacing the Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate. The Child Care Subsidy is paid directly to providers.

There are also changes to the annual cap which makes child care more affordable for most families.

The Additional Child Care Subsidy is included in the Child Care Safety Net and replaced a number of previous payments including the Special Child Care Benefit and the Jobs, Education and Training Child Care Fee Assistance (JETCCFA).

Previous child care system (prior to 2 July 2018)

The child care system that operated prior to 2 July 2018 had a number of payments including the Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate.

Assistance in finding suitable child care

The Child care Finder is a simple way for families to find a service that suits their needs. Families can find services, their vacancies, fees, opening hours and ratings.
