Stakeholder kit: professional development for early childhood workforce

We have professional development opportunities for the early childhood education and care (ECEC) workforce. This kit contains content for stakeholders to share these opportunities with providers and services.

Who should use this kit

This kit is for organisations that support the ECEC sector, including: 

  • peak bodies and industry groups 
  • state and territory education departments and regulatory authorities 
  • other Commonwealth agencies. 

It contains materials to share with providers and services in your network.

Initially, the subsidy prioritises: 

  • services and staff in regional, remote and very remote locations 
  • First Nations services and educators.

Eligible providers can apply now for the professional development and paid practicum subsidies. 

We are also seeking expressions of interest from early childhood teachers (ECTs) in training and services to join the practicum exchange network.

Get help to become an early childhood teacher 

The Australian Government Department of Education provides subsidies to support the early childhood education and care workforce.

Professional development subsidy

This subsidy helps qualified staff complete up to 2 days in training to enhance mandatory and highly recommended skills. 

Paid practicum subsidy 

Services can apply for subsidies to pay educators in training to complete their degrees or postgraduate studies with work placements. 

Practicum exchange 

Early childhood teachers (ECTs) in training and services can express their interest to join a practicum exchange network. From July 2024, candidates will be able to search for and arrange exchange opportunities on a dedicated website.
