2019 National Priorities Pool —Higher Education Priority Projects

The Department of Education is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from Table A (including consortia) for Higher Education Priority Projects under the 2019 National Priorities Pool component of the Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Program (HEPPP). The National Priorities Pool provides funding for projects that support the more effective implementation of HEPPP nationally and at the institutional level.

Around $6.2 million dollars will be available in the 2019 round, for large scale collaborative projects to complete before the end of 2022.

The department will seek expressions of interest under the following themes:

Indicative funding envelope available

Theme 1: Outreach, partnership and community engagement in regional communities
This theme aims to address the lower participation rate of low SES and regional students in higher education, by examining how long-term, coordinated outreach programs can increase the application rates of school leavers and mature age students in the regions.

$3.7 million

Theme 2: Future pathways and industry engagement
This theme aims to improve future pathways and industry engagement, as 'thin' careers education available to low SES and regional students can influence their aspiration towards higher education, and be an important factor in their success.

$1.2 million

Theme 3: Understanding and improving retention and success.
This theme aims to better understand and improve retention and success of low SES students, particularly those in regional universities and those from regional and remote backgrounds, by examining the support services provided by universities to improve low SES student retention and success.

$1.2 million

Projects are for three years. The minimum funding request is $300,000 but there is no maximum. Each Administering Organisation can submit a maximum of five EOIs divided across one, two or three themes. Additional Expressions of Interest in excess of the maximum five will not be considered.

Applications must be coordinated and submitted through the Administering Organisation's Research Office or equivalent business unit with responsibility for contact with the Commonwealth concerning grants proposals under the organisation's grants policies.

Applicants are asked to register their interest in the round by emailing equity@education.gov.au by 16 August 2019.
