To become a teacher it is necessary to complete a four year undergraduate teacher education degree such as a Bachelor of Education. Alternatively, it is possible to complete a three year Bachelor degree and then do a post graduate education course such as a Diploma of Teaching. Two degrees, for example a Bachelor of Arts with a Bachelor of Teaching, may also be completed simultaneously. Existing tertiary qualifications or relevant industry experience may be credited towards the completion of a teacher education course.
