Accessibility statement
Content published on the website conforms to World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) - Web Accessibility Guidelines for HTML, CSS and Accessibility. New and existing content is subject to standards-compliance reviews on a regular basis.
Site content is accessible to all browsers and text alternatives are available for images that describe vital information.
Known limitationsOlder browsers (ie. Internet Explorer 4x or earlier, Netscape 4x or earlier) will not display the content in the design we intended, however all content should be viewable regardless of the browser used.
Compliance standards
There are three levels of accessibility: priority levels 1, 2, 3.
Priority 1 is the base level that any Australian government website must meet. As an example of best practice in web design and development, the Government Education Portal must meet Priority 1 accessibility. The Portal also meets some priority 2 and 3 levels.
The following is a list of how the Government Education Portal meets these priority levels:
Priority 1- text equivalents for non-text elements
- ability to be read without style sheets
- indentification of row and column headers in tables, and
- all content is available when scrips are turned off or not supported.
- use of style sheets to control layout and presentation
- use of relative units in attribute values
- lists and list items marked up correctly, and
- avoidance of deprecated features of W3C technologies where possible.
- use of tables only for tabular data, and
- explicit association of forms fields with labels.
