The Australia-China Fund for S&T Cooperation is jointly managed by the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) and its Chinese counterpart, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). The objective of the Australia-China Fund is to promote and support scientific and technological cooperation between Australian and Chinese researchers in both public and private sectors. The Fund will provide financial assistance, on a competitive basis, for Australian participation in international collaborative scientific and research projects that seek support for eligible activities and which meet the objectives of the International Science Linkages (ISL) programme.

The ARC Linkage International supports movement of researchers between Australian research institutions and centres of research excellence overseas. It supports two types of awards: Fellowships, under international agreements for the reciprocal exchange of postdoctoral researchers and awards, to build links between research centres of excellence in Australia and overseas by funding extended collaborations.

The national programme supports world class environmental research. The fund supports research on the significant environmental challenges Australia faces, drawing on multiple disciplines, collaboration and existing research strengths. The CERF is aimed at creating national research hubs and building critical mass in areas of Australia's environmental strengths and national research priorities. The CERF specially supports proposals that demonstrates strong public good outcomes. Under this programme, $100 million are allocated to world class public good environmental research.
