The Australia-China Council (ACC) was established by the Australian Government in 1978 to foster people-to-people relations between Australia and China. In the area of education the Council supports the following key areas, Australian Studies in China, academic exchanges and programs for study in China, and school study programs.

The International Alliance of Research Universities is a strategic drawing together of a selected group of research-intensive universities that share similar values, a similar vision and a commitment to educating future world leaders. The alliance is comprised of ten universities, including Australian National University and: ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) Zurich; National University of Singapore; Peking University; University of California, Berkeley; University of Cambridge; University of Copenhagen; University of Oxford; University of Tokyo; and Yale University. The long-term aim is to seek corporate/foundation/government support for research projects; possibly convene a forum to share knowledge about the commercialisation of research and the legal and academic framework in each country; work jointly on benchmarking; and develop shared positions on key public policy issues.
