    This paper describes the agrifood industry in the macro, industry and vocational education and training (VET) environments. It identifies and lists labour and skills shortages which exist in rural and related industry, racing, seafood, meat, food processing, and across industry workers (business managers, research technicians and scientists). Job roles are evolving in two areas: higher level skills to complete tasks more efficiently, and technical knowledge to understand the supply chain; and supplementary skills across a wider range of functions to support the core roles.

    This environmental scan by the Transport and Logistics Industry has been developed as an information resource for Skills Australia and the Australian Government in their overall planning for workforce development. Current and emerging skills gaps are: truck drivers, store persons, bus and coach drivers, train drivers, forklift drivers, rolling stock and motive power unit maintenance staff. safety officers, and logistics management. An increase in skill levels can be developed by upgrading qualifications of existing workers; attracting workers in industries allied to transport and logistics, attract retiring defence personnel, and develop pathways for entry into the industry for school leavers, people from non-English speaking backgrounds, and others.

    This paper aims to provide IBSA with clear guidance in relation to its work in management and leadership training and education, particularly training packages and qualifications. Recommendations for the long term include an international benchmarking study of competency based development and training needs; a cross industry skills project to determine core management skills are for management roles; and the development of a qualifications framework able to integrate core and specific industry skills such as those identified in the 2020 report.

They analyse vocational education and training trends, discuss drivers of industry skill needs, and offer a range of strategies to address future skills and workforce development requirements.
