2010 Queensland State Education: a Future Strategy

Subtitled 'A Future Strategy' with an introduction by the Premier titled 'The contribution of State schools to the Smart State' the document addresses the implications for schools of the 'unique challenge posed by the transition to a globalised knowledge economy and society.' In relation to information technology the statement commits Education Queensland to developing a networked learning community, with effective support for schools, which: provides sufficient computers for students and teachers; networks computers; provides a rich, teacher-driven range of online curriculum materials; provides access through a 'virtual school' and flexible modes of delivery to a wider range of learning opportunities for all students; and maintains the initial quality of the investment in information technology. This policy targets Queensland government schools.

At a meeting in Adelaide, in April 1999, State, Territory and Commonwealth Ministers of Education met as the Ministerial Council on Education, Emmployment, Training and Youth Affairs (MCEETYA) and endorsed a new set of National Goals for Schooling in the Twenty-First Century. These were released as the Adelaide Declaration (1999) on National Goals for Schooling in the Twenty First Century. The Adelaide Declaration arose from a discussion paper (1998) reviewing the Hobart Declaration (1989) and supersedes these earlier documents which are available online here for historical reference.

The NT Department of Employment, Education and Training's Early Years review and Age of Entry Trial (Phases I and II) are ensuring Territory schools are on track with respect to the Australian Government's requirement for all states and territories to move to a nationally consistent single intake policy. The trial involves children who turn five on or by 30 June 2006 being able to begin in Transition at the beginning of Term 1, 2006. The trial continues to offer flexible intake for preschools, with preschools encouraged to negotiate this with their community.
