    Curtin University of Technology is a multi-campus university founded as the Western Australian Institute of Technology in 1967. Curtin gained university status in 1987. The central campus of the University is located in Bentley with courses also offered at metropolitan campuses in Shenton Park, Joondalup and the Central Business District. The Kalgoorlie Campus and Muresk Institute of Agriculture in Northam form two regional branches of the University. Curtin programs are also offered in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hong Kong. Curtin offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in business, engineering, health sciences, humanities, science, mining and agriculture. The Centre for Aboriginal Studies offers bridging courses for indigenous students and the Vocational Training and Education Centre offers vocational courses at Kalgoorlie and Esperance.

    Edith Cowan University (ECU), named after Edith Dircksey Cowan, the first female member of Parliament in Australia, is a Western Australian University with campuses in Churchlands, Mount Lawley, Joondalup, and South West (Bunbury). Courses are offered from undergraduate to doctorate level in Arts; Business; Education; Health and Human Sciences; Science, Technology and Engineering; and the Visual and Performing Arts.

    Murdoch University opened in Western Australia in 1975 and is named after Sir Walter Murdoch. The Murdoch Campus is located 15km south of the central business district of Perth, and about 8km east of Fremantle. The Rockingham Regional Campus is located 45km south of Perth. Murdoch university offers courses in: Biological and Environmental Science; Veterinary and Biomedical Science; the Law; Business and Information Technology; the Humanities; Mathematics; the Physical Sciences; Engineering; Education; and the Social Sciences.

    The University of Notre Dame Australia is Australia's first Catholic university. It is one of only two private universities in Australia and was founded in 1989 and enrolled its first students in 1992. It is a national university located in Fremantle and Broome, Western Australia and Sydney, New South Wales. The University has a close working and collegial relationship (but no constitutional connection) with the University of Notre Dame in the United States. It has drawn much of its founding inspiration and philosophy from that Catholic university. The Core curriculum is a Christian educational tradition and practice.

    The University of Western Australia, located on the banks of the Swan River in Perth, opened in 1913.
